Obituary of Mary F. Solonka

Mary F. Solanka, passed away at the age 73, on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home with her son by her side.  Mary was born in Murfreesboro, TN on October 1, 1951, the daughter of the late Vesper and Claude (nee McKnight) Cooper. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School.

Mary retired from Silver Cross Hospital working in the Environmental Services Department after 37 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Joliet. Mary was a very hard worker, but enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to fish, enjoyed walking the nature trails, cooking out on the grill, reading books, and enjoyed traveling to Tennessee to visit family. Mary always opened her home with love to all who needed a place to stay.

Mary is survived by her son, Thomas Doyle; brother, Rex M. Cooper of Readyville, TN; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Jane Harris

Visitation for Mary F. Solanka will be held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lightways Hospice or Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance
