Laddie Phillips, Jr.

Obituary of Laddie D. Phillips, Jr.

Laddie D. Phillips, Jr., born on January 26, 1963, in Brunswick, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, after an 8 year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which he fought with extraordinary courage and resilience.

Laddie had the most generous and kind heart. He was known for his selflessness and compassion, even refurbishing used bicycles for children that did not have one; he was known as the “Bike Guy.” He loved nature, animals, and being outdoors; enjoying the world around him. He had many interests and talents which included being a fantastic, creative cook.

Laddie proudly served in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He was based in Nevada, Oklahoma, and Japan, earning several awards and ribbons. After the military, his love of travel led him to become a long-distance truck driver. He embraced the freedom of the open road and his chance to see most of the country, until his diagnosis. Despite the challenges that he faced, he continued to touch the lives of those around him.

He deeply missed his cat Wonton, who had been his constant companion prior to his illness. Before Laddie passed, a surprise visit from Wonton was made possible. Seeing his cat again was one of his greatest joys.

Laddie is survived by his mother, Mary Phillips; sister, Kristina (John) Waskom; nephews, Trevor (Stella) Talkie and Grant Talkie; nieces, Karli (Chandler) Francis and Corinne (Jeff) Tordai; great-nephews, Carter, Luke, Julian, and Elliot; and great-nieces Gia and Ella. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Wonton.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Rob Phillips; father, Laddie D. Phillips, Sr.; paternal uncle, Dan Phillips; and paternal aunt, Sherry Wedic.

Many thanks to previous caretakers who guided Laddie through his journey with ALS. Also, sincere thanks to the great staff at Lincoln Village Healthcare for the kindness and support given to both Laddie and his family during his final hours.  Their kindness will always be remembered with appreciation and gratitude.
