Obituary of Margaret A. Taylor

Margaret A. Taylor

(nee Spannuth)

Margaret A. Taylor, passed away at the age of 79, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  Margaret was born in Bloomington, IN, on May 31, 1945, the daughter of the late James and Barbara (nee Groves) Spannuth.  She grew up in Bloomington, IN and was a graduate of Bloomington High School. Margaret was a long-time resident of Joliet, IL, where she raised a family with her husband Michael Gene Taylor.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Sara “Kathy” and Laura Taylor; granddaughters, Jennifer and Eleanor Taylor; sister, Sarah Holmes; and several nieces and nephews, and their children.

She is preceded by her husband; her daughter, Jennifer Taylor; her parents; her sisters, Ruth Mitchell, Mary Spannuth, Dorothy Thompson; and her brother, Russell Spannuth.

Margaret grew up with the Spannuth family business – The Book Corner in Bloomington, IN – and worked the cash register as a child. Thirty years ago, Margaret took over the reins full-time. Until very recently, she often worked seven days a week. Margaret delighted in her customers. She found joy in helping them find just the right book or by providing an extra personal touch. Margaret thought of her employees as friends, and even as extended family. When she took trips, Margaret would always find something to take back and share with them.

Margaret’s other passion was her granddaughters. She enjoyed taking vacations with them to Door County, WI, attending swim meets or school events, spoiling them in a way only grandmothers can, and just spending time with them any chance she could. Margaret cherished the unique character of each girl.

Margaret also enjoyed getting together with friends. She especially enjoyed Friday morning breakfasts with her brother-in-law, Jack Taylor.

She had a very kind and generous heart. Margaret would give to others or do without for herself if it brought happiness to someone else.
