Obituary of Gloria A. Martin
Gloria A. Martin (nee Marino), passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Gloria was born in Joliet, IL on August 12, 1935, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Marino (nee Lanza).
A passionate cook and proud restaurant owner, Gloria spent her life sharing her love for food with others. For years, her restaurant was a local gem, where patrons came not only for delicious meals but for the welcoming atmosphere she created. Her cooking was an expression of her love for her family and friends, and her signature dishes will forever be remembered.
When she wasn't busy preparing meals for others, Gloria found joy around the card table, playing games with her family and friends. She looked forward to her weekly crossword puzzles and always welcomed a good challenge with her competitive spirit. At home, you could often find her tuned in to the Game Show Network, playing along from the comfort of her living room.
Gloria had a rare gift: an extraordinary ability to make everyone laugh. Her quick wit, sharp humor, and love of banter made her a hoot to be around. Her humor kept those around her laughing, from her family to her nursing team, who were all entertained by her hilarious remarks right up until her final moments. Just ask us about the $75 Kleenex.
Gloria was known and loved in every community she was part of. She thrived in bringing people together, often through game nights and group gatherings at her residence, New Lenox Horizons, where she enjoyed cooking meals and baking desserts for events, and calling bingo—always ensuring everyone had a great time.
Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her family. Gloria was immensely proud of her family and their many accomplishments, and she made sure to share her pride with anyone who would listen. There was nothing she cherished more than spending time with her children and grandchildren—whether it was a breakfast outing, a birthday celebration, or a holiday gathering, she looked forward to every moment with those she loved.
Gloria’s legacy of love, laughter, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but her warmth, humor, and the memories of the good times shared will remain forever.
Gloria is survived by her 6 children, Joyce (Frank) Marino, Diane (Ray) Sharp, Danny Dutko (Mark Monzel), Teri Lowry, Carol Wagner, and Victoria (Bruce) Lopez; ten grandchildren, Sheri, Jason (Amy), Wendie (Adam), Bryan, Jeffery, Phillip, Ricky, Ashley, Michael, and Liane (Pete); 13 great grandchildren, Kendall (Dontell), Justin, Payzlee, Payton, Masen, Raquel, Marissa (Marvin), Josh, Ansley, Alyse, Ava, Caleb, and Blake; four great-great grandchildren, Khloe, Kamron, Karter, and Maleyna; brother, Robert (Marge) Marino; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends at New Lenox Horizons.
She is preceded in death by her son, David Dutko; and nine brothers and sisters, Joe, Angeline, Lena, Josie, Dick, Tom, Marie, Frank, and John.
