Obituary of Gerald Robert Krawiec

Gerald Robert Krawiec, age 79, of Shorewood, IL, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 23, 1945, in Chicago, IL, he was the beloved son of the late Stanley and Helen Krawiec.

Jerry answered the call to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He later built a long and rewarding career as a truck driver with Con-Way Freight. After 26 years of dedicated service, he retired and settled in Shorewood.

He belonged to the Lakepoint Resort in Wilmington, IL, for 30 years where he enjoyed the outdoors and created memories of a lifetime with his family and friends, making the most of his well-earned leisure time. He was also an avid golfer, even working again after retirement at the golf course because he loved the game so much.

Gerald is survived by his children, Rebecca (Keith) Krawiec of Crest Hill, IL, Kathryn (Tom) Krawiec of Joliet, IL, Gerald (Melissa) Krawiec of Channahon, IL , Colleen (Bill) Dahlstrom of Tinley Park, IL, Theresa Salup of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Joseph, Madisyn, Kyle, Ryan, Kathryn, Scarlett, Savannah, Shawn, Preston, Mitchell, Tyler, and Frankie; brothers, Stanley Krawiec of Sarasota, FL, Donald Krawiec of Carlsbad, CA, Linda Soukup of St. Charles, IL, and Maryann (the late Al) Zukauskas of Chicago, IL.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Hurst; his parents; and Duchess

Gerald’s legacy of strength, adventure, and perseverance will live on through the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him, especially his large group of grade school friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

A Memorial Gathering will be held for Gerald Robert Krawiec on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, located at 3200 Black Rd (at Essington) from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was his request, cremation rights have been accorded.
