Obituary of Charlene Mills

Age 82, of Romeoville, IL and formerly Chicago, passed peacefully Sunday, March 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 22, 1942, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Dorothea and Frank Cain.  She was raised and educated on the south side of Chicago, a graduate of Gage Park High School and Richard J. Daley College.

She is the beloved wife of the late Donald J. Mills, Sr. (2009); loving mother of Donald, Jr. (Kristin) Mills, Joel (Breedge) Mills, and Todd (Kim) Mills; proud grandmother of Lauren, Kyle, Ryan, Matthew, Kaitlyn, and Sean.

In addition to her husband, Don and her parents, Charlene is also preceded in death by her sisters, Sandy and Susan.

Charlene was a dedicated RN for the Radiology Oncology Department at the Adventist Cancer Institute, Hinsdale. She was a member of the Shepherd of Hills Lutheran Church. She also volunteered with Lightways Hospice and Meals on Wheels.  She enjoyed crocheting and loved to gift her creations to new parents.

Visitation for Charlene Mills will be Monday, April 7, 2025, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd) Joliet. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
