I've had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Lombardo for more than fifty years. First as a medical student, then as a colleague as we treated hundreds of cancer patients together and finally as a close personal friend. Bob and I shared many adventures fishing the wilderness lakes of Canada and developed a common bond. Ultimately my wife Lori and I became dear friends with Dolores Lombardo as well and enjoyed each others company for years.
Bob was a remarkable friend and I will miss him greatly.

I met Dr Lombardo while working at Olympia Fields Osteopathic hospital. Came to find out he was roommates with my Uncle Bob ( a surgeon as well) back in their medical school days. Dr Lombardo was a favorite in the hospital and my very favorite doctor. Kind, calm, patient and interested in others lives and how they were doing. I loved how he spoke of his wife calling her Doll and his eyes ablaze with love. He was a handsome devil as well! Oh that wavy hair ! My sincere sympathy to your family on the loss of this gem of a man.

Sheila and I were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Cousin Bob. What an extraordinary life he lived—99 remarkable years filled with dedication, passion, and love of family. His work as an osteopathic surgeon touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of healing and care. Beyond his professional accomplishments, his joy for hunting and fishing speaks to his connection with nature and adventure—a reflection of a life truly lived.
Seven decades of marriage is a testament to an enduring love and partnership that stands as an inspiration to all. Our hearts go out to Cousin Dolly, who shared such a long and meaningful journey by his side. Their bond and the memories they created together will forever remain a beacon of love and devotion.
Bob’s children, Robert and Maria, their spouses and children were blessed to have Bob as a father, grandfather and role model.
Please accept our deepest condolences. May the cherished moments and the strength of family bring you all comfort during this difficult time. Gary and Sheila Gardner, Brianna and John Michael Simko, Kelly & Nathan Gendron and Bridget Gardner.
