Dr. Primo Robert Lombardo
Dr. Primo Robert Lombardo of Burr Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, at the age of 99. He was born on March 30, 1926, in Italy to the late Angelo and Regina Lombardo.
Primo was the beloved husband of Dolores D. Ostrowski; proud father to Robert M. (Karen L.) Lombardo of Minooka, IL, and Maria A. (John Kucera) Lombardo of Palm Springs, CA; cherished grandfather to Robert E. Lombardo of Minooka, IL, and Samantha R. (Taylor) Schapiro, of Shorewood, IL; great-grandfather to Juniper R. Schapiro; treasured uncle to Michelle Ostrowski of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Brad Lombardo of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Mark Vanderbeck of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and dear friend of Dr. and Mrs. Bob and Lori Tomchuck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Regina; his brother, William Secondo Lombardo; and his sister, Dolores Vanderbeck.
A man of intellect and deep passion, Dr. Lombardo earned degrees from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, and the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He dedicated his professional life as a surgeon to healing, teaching, and mentoring. He was a trailblazer in the Osteopathic community and was the first licensed Osteopathic Surgeon in the state of Illinois. He is a past president of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and has influenced countless students with his knowledge, wisdom, and dedication to the field of medicine. He influenced the lives of thousands of patients with his compassion and skill.
Outside of academia, Dr. Lombardo found joy in collecting antiques and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He was deeply devoted to his family, always placing them at the center of his life. A longtime member of St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale, IL, he found comfort and guidance in his faith throughout his life.
Primo will be remembered for his intelligence, thoughtful nature, and the deep love he held for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Funeral Services for Dr. Primo Robert Lombardo will be held privately by the family. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded, and inurnment will take place at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Ontario, Canada, where he will be laid to rest at a later date.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Edward/Elmhurst Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Dr. Lombardo and his family during his time there.
