John Sheridan, Jr

Obituary of John A. Sheridan, Jr

It is with relief and broken hearts that we announce, “Little Mr. (John A.) Sheridan Jr.,” received his wings at home the morning of April 5th, 2025, with his family by his side.

We know he is flying high with all those who went before him. It is the very same day that his Aunt Sandy Wysocki was called home the year prior. There is no doubt that “Sandra Dee”, grandparents, Dorothy & Joe Sheridan and Beatrice & John Burgett, aunts and uncles, Bobbie (Roy) Anderson, Linda Schultz, John, Larry, and Timothy Burgett were there greeting him with open arms showing him the way.

Johnny or “John Boy” as most of you knew him by, entered life on earth August 5th, 1968, and if you were ever introduced to Johnny, he made damn sure you knew when his birthday was. He was very proud of that day along with his parents, Roxy (Burgett) & (Roommate)John Sheridan, his” sista”, Dawn (Derek) Breen, and his pride and joy niece and nephews, Sydney B. Monroe, Aidan Jack and Taylor (Molly)Breen. Each of them at one time or another held the “favorite” title before their name.

He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins; adoring Godmother and aunt, Judy (Bill) Vessel, along with aunt, Jackie (Fred) Stone, Pam (Larry) Holland and uncles, Joe, and Steven Sheridan; as well as the original “Pals Are We Club” members that included his Uncles, Bill (Shari) Sheridan and Mike Sheridan; special friends, Aunt Lori and Stefan Franze.

Johnny was a graduate of Joliet Central High School class of 1989 and attended Cornerstone Services. He was very proud of the various jobs he held over the years. Whether washing the high school football team uniforms at school or performing janitorial duties at Cornerstone, he did so with pride and loved getting his check on payday.

Some would say that my brother came into this world at a disadvantage because he carried an extra chromosome, but those who had the privilege of knowing him and loving him would wholeheartedly disagree. He was the epitome of light and love. He was kind to everyone without condition, present without distraction, and loved everyone he met with his whole heart. He easily expressed empathy, grace, and forgiveness. He mastered what matters in life so effortlessly.

He idolized his “Family” and loved spending time with them and truly cherished the many friendships he made over the years. Especially with the “ladies” who he’d never shy away from telling them how “pretty or gorgeous” they were. He wasn’t shy about giving out hugs either because “hugs are free.”

Johnny was a member of The Chicago Parrot Head Club for many years, he was a world traveler, and loved all musicals including Mama Mia & Grease. Although off-key, he would always sing along loud and proud. He was the biggest fan of the Golden Girls and loved to tell you that Blanche loved sex. He cherished his Barbie Dolls and loved to dress them in their clothes from “Paris,” always bringing along a Doctor and Nurse to his appointments. With the help of his brother-in-law and niece and nephews he became a huge Blackhawks Fan.

Grief is the price we pay for love. And although we know in time that “every little thing will be alright”, we take comfort in knowing his hip will no longer kill him, that his incision and jaw will no longer hurt, and that he will be the brightest star up in the skies above.

We all “love you MORE,” Johnny and thank you for being a (great) friend.

We hope that all of our family and friends are able to join us on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10 a.m. until a service of remembrance begins at 1 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet to celebrate a cherished life well-lived.
