Obituary of Bette Jane Young

Bette Jane (Baker) Glavan Young

Bette Jane Young, age 89, of Asheboro, North Carolina and formerly of Nevada and Plainfield, IL, passed peacefully on Sunday morning, April 6, 2025, at Crossroad Retirement Center in Asheboro, NC.  Bette Jane was born on September 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Ersie (Decker) and Harry Baker in Mazon, Illinois.  She was raised in that area, graduating from Dwight High School.

Bette raised her family in Plainfield and was devoted to her children, serving as a Sunday school teacher, den mother, softball coach, and room mother. She was a member of the Plainfield Congregational Church on Route 59.  A beautician by trade, Bette also worked on the stealth bomber project while she and Lloyd resided in Nevada.

In her retirement years, Bette moved to Nebraska and eventually settled in North Carolina five years ago to be closer to family.

She was a proud member of both the Red Hat Society and the Eastern Star, and she never lost her joy for connecting with others. She was especially proud of her hourglass collection, something she loved to share with visitors as symbols of time and treasured memories.

Bette is survived by her loving daughters, Valerie (David) Sarrazin, Lisa (George) Paulson; her loving grandchildren, Tiffany (Troy) Cassiday, Veronica (Derek) Sarrazin, Gabrielle (Mike) Frey, George II (Melissa) Paulson, and Sarah (Jared) Machiela; her cherished great-grandchildren, Daevan, Adelynn, Gavin, Scarlett, Vinny, Delilah, Violet, and Flora; and her brother, Daniel (Marie) Knowles.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd Young; beloved sons, Dennis T. Glavan Jr., Jeffrey Alan Glavan, and Daniel Eugene Glavan; her infant sister, Wanda Jean; and her brother, Donald (Helen) Claypool. Though she has joined them in rest, Bette’s legacy of kindness, thoughtfulness, and love endures through the generations she leaves behind.
