Obituary of Marvin J. Salato
Marvin J. Salato, age 83, of Minooka, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
Born June 3, 1941, in Joliet, he was the son of the late Elmer and Isabelle (Barra) Salato, and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College.
Marvin was a proud member of Carpenters Union Local #174 for over 30 years, and later worked for Joliet Junior College in maintenance for 15 more years.
He was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka, where his carpentry skills were responsible for much of the woodwork and fixtures of the church. He was also a retired volunteer with the Lisbon-Seward Fire Protection District.
Marvin lived by three tenets: God, family, and helping those in need. He instilled those values in his children, and they always knew he loved them and how proud he was of them. He especially enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers, and as an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He also never met a stranger and had an uncanny knack for running into people he knew wherever he went. He maintained many lifelong friendships and it only took a few minutes to get to know and love him.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Lou (Csepregi) Salato; his loving children, Michelle Salato, Matthew (Lisa) Salato, Michael (Michelle) Salato and Marie Salato; five adoring granddaughters, Allison, Gianna, Emma, Ashlynn and Sophia; one brother, Eugene (Elaine) Salato; one niece, Valerie Salato; and one nephew, Robert Salato.
Visitation for Marvin Salato will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka, for Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Minooka.
