

Obituary of Janice A. Knapp
Age 75, of Woodridge, IL, passed from this life Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025. She was born in Chicago, on January 26, 1950, to the late Estelle and Anthony Schramm. After living in Gary, Indiana for a few years, she moved with her family to Mokena, Illinois, where she was raised and educated, attending St. Mary's grade school and graduating with the class of 1968 from Lincoln-Way High School.
Janice then began working at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL, where she met her husband, Joseph R. Knapp, whom she married in November of 1973.
After she and Joe raised their daughters, Janice went back to work, initially with Wannamaker's, then with Walmart in Darien, where she served for nearly 30 years.
Her hobbies included gardening, baking, painting, knitting, and crocheting, often sharing her creations with family and friends. Janice was also a fan of the Beatles, always looking forward to the annual Beatlefest, which she faithfully attended the past quarter century.
Janice is the beloved mother of Lisa Knapp and Kimberly (Daniel) Marshall; devoted grandmother of Brooke and Haley Marshall; and dearest sister of Maryann Winde, Sr. Nancy Schramm, and Judy Schramm. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as her feline friends, especially Thor, her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years and her parents.
Visitation for Janice will be Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) in Joliet, IL. A prayer service will begin at 4:30 p.m. Sunday to conclude the day. Interment will take place later in the upcoming week at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to West Suburban Humane Society in Downers Grove, IL, in memory of Janice Knapp.
