William L. Weibel
William L. “Bill” Weibel, 78, of Shorewood, IL passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025. He was born on October 17, 1946 in Chicago and also was a long-time resident of Oak Lawn, IL. Bill was the son of the late William A. and Eda V. (nee Zubriggen) Weibel. He was a 1964 graduate of Harper High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance at the University of Illinois Circle in 1972. With a strong belief in continued education, he successfully pursued 2 MBA degrees: DePaul University in 1975 and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1979. Bill led a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Bill proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War. His service earned him several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He remained deeply committed to his fellow veterans throughout his life, offering unwavering support to the V.A. and other veteran organizations. During retirement, Bill enjoyed volunteering his time at the Hines VA call center.
Following his military service, William embarked on a long and devoted career as a banker with BMO Harris. In both his professional and personal life, he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. He was especially handy and enjoyed spending his free time woodworking and finishing basements. His elaborate Christmas light displays and 4th of July firework shows will always be fondly remembered.
Above all, Bill cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cynthia (nee Kupres) Weibel; his beloved children, Jennifer (Alexandro N.) Menchaca and William G. (Colleen) Weibel; his seven adored grandchildren, Madison, Abigail, Maya and Alexandro W. Menchaca, and Emma, Amie and Adeline Weibel. He is also survived by his in-laws George and Peggy Kupres and James and Catherine Kupres. ‘Uncle Bill’ will be missed by nieces and nephews, Erin (Justin) Brockhoff, Daniel (Heather Conry) Kupres, Emily (Aaron) Leclerc and Lucie Kupres; as well as great nephew and niece Jackson and Ellie Brockoff.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Patricia A.Weibel and Barbara J. (nee Weibel) Parker.
Funeral Services for William L. Weibel were held privately by the family and inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
