Joseph Robert Genovese

 

Joseph Robert Genovese passed away peacefully at his home in Channahon on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.  Joe was born on April 13, 1951, the son of the late Dale and Armena Smith.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

 

Joseph, affectionately known as “Poppa,” was a kind person, always giving and joking.  He loved God and his family.

 

Joseph is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lakasha (Damion McIntosh) Welcher; grandchildren, Davonte (Marissa) Welcher, DeAmonte McIntosh, Damionte McIntosh, and Nevaeh “Sugar Bear” McIntosh; and great-grandchildren, Wynter Welcher and Kehani McIntosh.  He is also survived by his best friend, Bobbi McIntosh.

 

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, and five brothers.

 

Visitation for Joseph Genovese will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakasha Welcher.
