Alquin William Hoppe
Alquin William Hoppe, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on June 25, 1931, in Melrose, Minnesota, Alquin spent his early years on his family's farm, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, hard work, and simplicity. His love for nature endured throughout his life, demonstrated by his passion for fishing and snowmobiling.
Alquin answered the call to serve his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. Upon returning to civilian life, he dedicated many years of service to Hoppe Construction, where he was a respected and valued laborer. Alquin was also a longtime member of Stone City VFW Post 2199, where he found camaraderie and support among fellow veterans.
Alquin is survived by one step-son, Timothy Dodd I; two step-daughters, Stephanie Burke and Rebecca McCord; grandsons, Matthew Hoppe, James “Jim” (Melissa) Dodd, Jr., Timothy (Catherine) Dodd II; three great-grandsons; two great-great-grandsons; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Hoppe. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Mary H. Hoppe; his parents, Herman and Anna; all seven of his siblings, Helen, Veronica, Philomena, Raymond, Edmund, Virgil, and Allois; his son, Dan Hoppe; and step-son, James Dodd, Sr.
Alquin’s steadfast character, gentle nature, and deep-rooted values left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Funeral Services for Alquin William Hoppe will be held at 12:00 noon, on Monday, October, 13, 2025, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Family and friends are invited to meet at the public information center at 11:45 a.m.
