Obituary of Esther C. Lopez
Age 83, of Channahon, IL, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Esther was born June 27, 1942 in Mexico to the late Maria (Adame) and Gilberto Tapia. She was a longtime Joliet area resident.
Esther is the loving mother of Kenneth I. (Guadalupe) Lopez, Jacqueline Procyk, James R. (Yolanda), Wayne (Carolina), Michael (Viviana) Lopez and Maya (Scott) Pucel; proud and devoted grandmother of 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Jesus (Anita) Tapia-Adame, Celia Tapia-Adame, and Guadalupe De La Cruz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Martin M. Lopez whom Esther cared for lovingly as his health declined in his last two decades. Her parents also preceded her as well as her siblings, Bertha Tapia-Adame (late Juan), Lilia Tapia-Adame (late Crispin), Gilberto Tapia-Adame (late Blanca) and Christina Tapia-Adame.
A union butcher for the former Eagle Grocery in Joliet, Esther retired, but never stopped working for what mattered most to her-the well being of her family and friends. She loved hosting get-togethers, always memorable, with an abundance of food, fun, love and laughter. In her spare time, she loved to go out dancing and to socialize with those around her. She was known to be a professional and avid garage-saler and lottery ticket scratcher. Those who knew her, will cherish the great advice and her ability to always know what to say. She wanted everyone to know that she would always pray for the world.
Her presence will be missed, her memory alive in our hearts and minds forever.
