Obituary of Roger Carl Hess
Roger Carl Hess, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, on Thursday, October 23, 2025 with the love of his family by his side. A resident of Plainfield, formerly of Downers Grove and Oak Park, Roger was born on September 18, 1945, the son of the late Henry C. and Dorothy F. (nee Redpath) Hess.
Roger answered the call to serve his country as a proud member of the U.S. Army, where he demonstrated steadfast commitment and honor. His military service was a reflection of his deeply ingrained values of duty and loyalty—qualities that continued to define him throughout his life.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Roger will remember him for his friendly nature and generous spirit. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally. He had a way of making everyone he loved feel welcome and at ease, always ready with a kind word, or a helpful gesture. Modest in nature, his loving demeanor remained constant, even in the face of life’s challenges.
A man of faith, Roger was an active member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Trustees, and United Methodist Men.
Roger is survived by his children, William Roger (Kelly) Hess and Lisa Ann Teets; and five grandchildren, Shawn and Alec Hess and Cooper, Griffin and LCpl Brandon Teets; and one brother, Ronald T. (Phyllis) Hess. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.
He is preceded by his wife of 49 years, Linda Kay (nee Bradley) Hess (2016); his parents and one granddaughter, Nicole Renee Teets.
A Celebration of Life for Roger Carl Hess will be held at a later date at the Hope United Methodist Church.
