

Obituary of Ozzie W. Mitchell, Jr.
Ozzie W. Mitchell, Jr., a longtime resident of Joliet, Illinois, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on December 11, 1959, in Tampa, Florida, to Peggy (Williams) and the late Ozzie Mitchell, Sr.
At a young age, Ozzie moved with his family to Joliet where he was raised and educated. He attended Joliet Catholic High and graduated with the class of 1978 from Joliet Central High School. He then served his Country proudly as a member of the United States Army.
In addition to his beloved mother, Peggy, Ozzie is also survived by his wife, Sharon Mitchell; his siblings, Zena (Charles Christian) Mitchell, Nicole (Greg) Davis, Nancy (Vird) Edmon, and Marcus (Amy) Mitchell; his children, Jessie Lee Marinez, Corey Mitchell, Tiaira Marie Mitchell, Kyla Jo Mitchell, Taylor Ann Mitchell, Janene Jassmine Mitchell, Ozzie Wyatt Mitchell III, and Chanel Diamond Nichole Mitchell; grandchildren, Jaylah Mitchell, Ryan House, Mason Wyatt Mitchell, Natalee-Rae Hischier, Gabriel Hischier, Alayna Munoz, Meila Parker, Syndi Parker, Keyareia Nobles, Jhyronte Nobles, Jhene Nobles, Raykeis Alexander, Ozzie Wyatt Mitchell IV, Lily Mitchell, Lucy Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, Phenox Marinez, Nicholas Allen Garcia, Hector Elijah Nevarez, Marissa Nevarez, Lucia Adele Nevarez, Romicio Nevarez, and Zayden Clark; and one great-grandchild, Messiah Hischier.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ozzie Mitchell, Sr., and brother, Derrick Mitchell.
Visitation for Ozzie W. Mitchell, Jr. will be Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until a service of remembrance begins at 11:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
