Obituary of Edith J. Gilson

Edith Joann Gilson, age 93 of Lockport, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, IL, after a brief illness.

Edith, or "E", was the heart of her family and home.  She was the daughter of Matthew and Marion Bakosh of Hickory Hills, Illinois, and was born the third out of six children.  

Edith is survived by her husband, Herbert T. Gilson; her children, William L. (Kathryn) Carrier, and Denise L. Demetral; and her grandson, Matthew (Kasey) Demetral.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and first husband, William J. Carrier.

Edith was strong in will, action, and her faith.  She genuinely cared for the welfare of others, be they family, friends, or strangers, and always readily provided support and a helping hand. She loved the animal members of her family, as well as, deeply caring about and supporting the welfare of all animals, near and far.  She enjoyed home decorating, cooking, and flower arranging.  

She was a faithful and engaged member of Stonehill/Christ Community Church of Joliet.

A Memorial Gathering for Edith J. Gilson will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, Illinois, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Due to her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
