Obituary of John R. Dunn, Jr.
John Richard "Jack" Dunn, Jr., age 89, of Morris, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at home with his wife by his side.
Born April 22, 1936, in Ottawa, Illinois, Jack was the son of the late Patricia (Killelea) and John R. Dunn, Sr. He attended grade school in Kinsman and graduated from high school before completing one year of college. Jack then joined his father in the family business, John R. Dunn Grain Co., where he worked from 1955 until 1985. In addition, he operated Kinsman Mutual Telephone Company beginning in 1962.
Jack had a lifelong passion for cars and firearms. He served as a crew member for 10 years with SCCA Sports Cars and for 12 years with USAC Stock Cars. He was a proud member of the NRA, ILRA, and the Single Action Shooting Society. Dedicated to his community, Jack volunteered with the Verona Kinsman Fire Department and served as a board member of the Grundy County ETSB for more than 25 years.
On April 6, 1979, Jack married Pamela (Whittemore) Limbach. Together they shared 46 years of marriage, traveling the United States in their RV and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona.
Jack will be remembered as a devoted husband to Pam; brother-in-law to Billee (Harold) Thetard and Patsy Goodman; uncle to Tracey Gorham, Brett (Lisa) Thetard, Roger (Pam) Goodman, and the late Dana (Mike) Goodman; and had a special relationship with Michelle Baudino and Pat Carey; as well as countless neighbors and friends who will miss his warmth and generosity.
Visitation for John Richard “Jack” Dunn, Jr. will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive in Morris, IL. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ward Cemetery, Mazon, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Ward Cemetery, Mike Sinnott, 3480 W. Mine Road, Verona, IL 60479.
