Obituary of Simon Alvarez Cuevas

Simon Alvarez Cuevas, age 67 of Morris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at home with family by his side. Simon was born in Guadajalara, Mexico, on October 28, 1958, to Felipe and Gregoria Alvarez (Cuevas). He immigrated to the United States when he was 19 to find work. He moved up the state of California, finally settling in Morris, IL. Simon was a very social man who made a lot of friendships during his time. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his favorite futbol teams Chivas de Guadalajara, going to church, and traveling back home to Mexico. His favorite hobbies included tinkering with electronics, fishing, and watching his favorite Chicago sports teams.

Simon is survived by his loving wife, Magdalena Cristina Alvarez; his beloved children, Alan Simon Alvarez, Adriana Paola Alvarez; siblings, Felipe Alvarez, Eustacio Alvarez, Manuel Alvarez, Julian Alvarez, and Salvador Alvarez; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his favorite pup, Frijol also survive.

He is preceded in death by his father, Felipe Alvarez, and his mother, Gregoria Alvarez; his brothers, Ventura Alvarez, Picliano Alvarez, and Jop Alvarez; nephew, Victor Alvarez; niece, Jasmine Alvarez, and his father-in-law, Francisco Ontiveros.

Visitation for Simon Alvarez Cuevas will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral services at 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Drive) in Morris, IL. Following services, Simon's cremated remains will be buried at their family cemetery in Mexico at a later date.
