

Obituary of Michael Raymond Martinez, Jr.
Michael Raymond Martinez Jr., age 13, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away unexpected on Friday, January 2, 2026, in Joliet. He was born on December 21, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois, to his loving parents, Michael Martinez and Rhealyn Ibarra.
Michael attended Sator Sanchez Elementary School and was an honor roll student every quarter at Hufford Junior High School. Intelligent and well-mannered, he was known for his dedication to his studies and his thoughtful presence in the classroom. His teachers and peers regarded him as a bright and promising young man.
A talented and self-taught musician, Michael had a natural gift for learning and playing numerous instruments. His love for music was a defining part of who he was, and he shared that joy generously with those around him. He also enjoyed being by the water—swimming, spending time at the beach, and fishing brought him peace and happiness.
Michael was a loving, kind, and friendly boy who was cherished by everyone who knew him. He had a gentle heart and always looked after his younger sister, Isabella, with great care and protectiveness. Known as a jokester, he brought laughter and lightheartedness to family gatherings and everyday moments, creating memories that his loved ones will always hold dear.
He also played baseball in the Miracle League of Joliet, where his spirit, sportsmanship, and joy for the game touched teammates, coaches, and supporters alike. His participation reflected his determination, courage, and love of being active and engaged in his community.
Michael is survived by his parents, Michael Martinez and Rhealyn Ibarra; his younger sister, Isabella Martinez; paternal grandparents, Sandra Brito and Raymond (Linda) Martinez; maternal grandmother, Nena (Jose) Rios; great-grandmother, Lydia (Marco) Robles; and his aunts and uncles, Anthony Martinez, Nico Martinez, Josephine Rios, Jennifer (Aaron) Espinoza, Joanna Rios, and Jonathan Rios. He is also survived by numerous great-aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Salas.
Michael’s kind heart, loving nature, and joyful spirit leave a lasting imprint on all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.
Funeral Services for Michael Raymond Martinez, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Miracle League of Joliet, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, or American Autism Association, would be appreciated.
