Obituary of John Edward Olszta
John Edward Olszta
John Edward Olszta, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home in Joliet, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 18, 1948, in Joliet to the late Casimer and Margaret Olszta, and spent his life rooted in the community where he was raised.
John grew up in Joliet and was a graduate of Lockport Township High School and Illinois State University. He went on to build a long and steady career as a roofer, retiring after 37 hard-working years with Crowther Roofing and Sheet Metal. During this time, he also participated in the Illinois National Guard. His dedication to his work reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.
Outside of work, John enjoyed the outdoors and found joy in camping, exploring, and riding motorcycles. In his younger years, he played softball, embracing both camaraderie and competition. Above all, John was family-oriented. He was active in the lives of his sons and spent many seasons coaching them in soccer, taking great pride in supporting and guiding them as they grew. After retiring, he gave his free time to volunteering at local animal shelters.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Coralie (nee Van Vooren) Olszta; his three sons, Matthew John (Bojana) Olszta, Andrew John (Andrea) Olszta, and Michael John (Ann) Olszta; and his cherished grandchildren, Meto, Pavel, Elijah, Vivian, Nicholas, and Lucas Olszta. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert (Paulette) Olszta and Donna Jean (Jeff) Papineau, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Casimer and Margaret Olszta, and his brothers, Richard Olszta and Edward Olszta.
John will be remembered as a loving man who devoted himself to his family, his work, and the simple pleasures of life spent outdoors.
