Margaret Haight O’Connor

Margaret Haight O’Connor, of Crest Hill, formerly of Chicago and Aurora, passed away peacefully, at the age of 94, on Sunday, January 18, 2026.  Marge was born in Chicago, IL, on May 26, 1931, the oldest daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret D. Haight. She attended Church of St. Jude, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Our Lady of Angels, and most recently, St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church.  Marge was a woman of deep faith who led by example. As a Catholic Intercessor, she faithfully lifted others in prayer, always adding the names of those she loved and cared for to her prayer list, a devotion carried from her Irish ancestors and lived out in service to many over the years. A devoted resident of the Willow Falls community since 2008, she found great comfort and fellowship in praying the Rosary alongside fellow residents.

Marge is survived by her daughters, Margaret M. (the late Bob) Wiechowski, Patricia A. O’Connor, Mary C. (John) Edwards, Donna Jo O’Connor, Maureen C. (Gary) Lewis, and Rita C. O’Connor; and her brother, James J. (the late Katy) Haight.  Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

She is preceded by her husband of 62 yrs, Donald Joseph Patrick O’Connor; her parents; one daughter, Theresa Marie (the late Jimmy) Cacciatore; her grandmother, Della Dimond; and her brothers, Jack (Sally) Haight, Bill (Chris) Haight, and Tom R. Haight.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway Street, Joliet, IL 60435.  Inurment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
