Obituary of Donald W. Brown
Donald “Don” Wayne Brown, age 65, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in New Lenox, IL. Don was born on September 11, 1960, in Joliet, IL. He was the son of C.W. Brown and Odessa (Sharpe) Brown.
Don grew up in Lockport, IL, and was a graduate of Lockport Township High School. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, making art, watching movies, learning history and listening to music. He found joy in lending a helping hand and was always willing to help out when needed, especially if it involved a small engine. Don was known around Joliet to be able to fix anything of the sort.
Don was employed by Sears for 20 years, after which he became employed by Silver Cross Hospital, where he worked 20 years as an Environmental Services Technician Lead.
At a young age, Don developed a love for art, inspired by the artistic talents of his brothers. Don’s talent evolved in high school, and he went on to receive various awards and recognitions. He contributed his talents to mural projects with Friends of Community Art in the Joliet area. Much of Don’s art is a reflection of his appreciation for history and nature. His favorite mediums included watercolors, acrylic , pencil, graphite and India ink.
Don was known to have a deep love for music in the genres of jazz, soul and funk. He curated an extensive vinyl collection comprised of many of his favorite artists, such as Marvin Gaye, Jean Luc Ponty, Miles Davis, and Hiroshima.
Don is survived by his three loving children, Jason (Monique) Arthur, Brittany (Matthew) Hambric and Zachary Brown; his grandson, Julian Arthur; brothers, Keith (Mardissa) Brown and Bennye Brown; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, friends, coworkers and his “work buddy”, Latin Blackmon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles Brown.
Don’s energy and presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of laughter and kindness will live on. Forever in our hearts, Dad, Don, Donnie, Uncle Don.
Funeral Services for Donald Wayne Brown will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.
