Obituary of Fernando J. Lozano
Fernando J. Lozano was called to Heaven, at the age of 75, on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born on April 3, 1950, and settled in Chicago in 1953, in the Uptown/Lakeview Neighborhood to start a new life with his mother the late Catalina Tellez. Fernando grew up in Chicago, attended LeMoyne, Lakeview and Jones Commercial Schools and proudly graduated. He was also very active in the church and had a strong faith. Fernando answered the call in 1969 to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. His love for the Corps went beyond his years of active duty and never stopped. He was one of the founding members of the DuPage Honor Guard and was a member of the Marine Corps League. Fernando was a proud Marine to the very end, wore his uniform proudly, and served his community along with his veteran brothers and sisters of all armed forces.
Fernando was deeply involved in Toys for Tots, parades, the Honor Guard, and community events, and he faithfully assisted with funeral services whenever called upon. An avid reader, he had a deep love for his books. He was incredibly intelligent and endlessly funny, with a rare gift for finding humor even in the most serious moments—helping those around him endure life’s toughest times. A stubborn jarhead at heart, above all else he was a devoted grandfather who loved his family unconditionally.
Fernando is survived by his daughter, Tabitha (Matt) Sorrentino; and his cherished grandchildren, Marissa, Rocco and Ava Sorrentino, and Christopher Rion Jr.
He is preceded by his mother, Catalina Tellez; and his daughter, Amanda Lozano Rion.
“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank Jim "Pops" Myrick and the entire Myrick Family for being his best friend. Jim, you and my father have many memories together, shared much laughter whether good or bad. You both stood by each other's side no matter what. Most of all "Pops" you were with him the entire time in his last moments with my family, until his last breath, for this I am grateful. You may have not been blood but Jim, you were his Brother even if you were Army (running joke) but he loved you. I am sure he is enjoying margaritas in a can and always with a straw. To my Father, My best Friend I thank you for all our memories, funny moments, the tough and peaceful times. It has been a difficult 2 years but you fought like a Soldier, a True Marine, I will miss you deeply and extremely PROUD OF YOU! Now Rest in Heaven My Devil Dog, you have earned your wings. Semper Fi”
