Joanne T. Sovich
Joanne T. Sovich, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born on February 14, 1932, the daughter of Matthew H. and Mildred M. (nee Thomson) Vertin in Joliet, where she remained a lifelong resident.
She was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, as well as the Joliet Elks Lodge 296, the Croatian Cultural Club, and the 300 Joliet Moose Lodge. She dedicated over 35 years of service as an accounting clerk with Caterpillar, where she was known for her reliability and strong work ethic. In her free time, she loved to travel, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories.
Joanne’s life was marked by kindness, and steady faith. She will be remembered by family and friends for her welcoming presence, her thoughtful gestures, and the quiet strength of her beliefs. Her family was the heart of her world, and she took great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
Joanne is survived by her sons, Matthew (Christine) Forneris of Joliet, Edward (Jan) Forneris of Shorewood; devoted grandmother to Michael (Carly) Forneris, Renee Forneris, Amanda Forneris, and Craig Forneris; loving great-grandmother to Madisynne, Masen, Macksen, Maelynne Forneris.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin J. Sovich, and her son, William L. “Bill” Forneris, Jr. Their memories remained a cherished part of her life and were a constant source of strength and comfort to her.
Visitation for Joanne T. Sovich will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Funeral Services will start Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brookforest Ave., Shorewood, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield, IL.
