Jerome Zettek

Obituary of Jerome T. Zettek

Jerome T. Zettek, age 89, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Yorkville, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago, IL, on November 24, 1936, the son of the late Charles and Clara (nee Borzych) Zettek.

Jerome attended Quincy College and went on to further his education earning his bachelor’s degree at DePaul University. Determined to build a better future for his family, he graduated from DePaul while working two jobs, all while being a devoted husband and father of two, with another child on the way. His journey is a testament to resilience, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to both his education and his family.

Jerome found peace and simple pleasure in fishing trips to Cass Lake, where the quiet waters offered moments of reflection and joy. Yet nothing brought him greater pride than being known as “Coach.” For years, he poured his heart into mentoring young athletes through little league, basketball, and Trojan football. More than teaching plays and drills, he taught discipline, teamwork, and character; leaving a lasting imprint on countless young lives. His legacy lives on not just in wins and trophies, but in the confidence and values he helped instill in the next generation.

Unwavering dedication to his community placed him at the heart of countless efforts throughout Bolingbrook. When challenges arose, he stood boldly for his neighbors, advocating for what was right and working tirelessly to uplift those around him. His leadership and service did not go unnoticed. After achieving milestones that positively impacted so many lives, he was honored with the “Citizen of the Year” Award. Through his courage, compassion, and commitment, Jerome proved that true leadership is measured not by titles, but by the lives touched and the community strengthened because he chose to serve.

Jerome is survived by his children; Deborah (the late Terry) Dziewiatkowski, Dale Zettek, Denise Zettek, and Darren Zettek; his grandchildren; Chris (Cathy) Dziewiatkowski, Craig (Gracie) Dziewiatkowski, Christina and Cailey Zettek, and Melanie and Nicole Schutten; his great-grandchildren; Gianna, Frankie, Max, Bernadette, Bo, and Louis Dziewiatkowski; his sister, Gloria (the late Ronald)Gniadek;  his brother, Robert (Judith) Zettek; and his brother-in-law, Joseph (Patricia) Kubelka. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Knox.

He is preceded in death by his one true love, his wife, Lovelle; son, Darrell Zettek; and brother, Charles Zettek.

As it was Jerome’s request, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be planned for a future date.
