Henry "Hank" Arnold DeSandre

Henry "Hank" Arnold DeSandre, a beloved member of his community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born on April 27, 1945, and exemplified a life filled with hard work, commitment to service, and a deep love for his family. ‘

Hank had an illustrious career as a sheet metal worker with Local Union 265, contributing 40 years of service and demonstrating unwavering dedication. He was not only a respected member of the union for 50 years but also received the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his numerous contributions to the community. His military service as an Army Veteran, where he proudly earned the Decoration Marksman (Rifle), further underscored his commitment to service and excellence.

Beyond his professional achievements, Hank was known for his expansive interests and hobbies. He was an avid volunteer for the Red Cross, participating in nationwide deployments and helping those in need. His involvement extended beyond volunteering; he was an esteemed member of the Merrand Club and a dedicated Ham Radio Operator with the call sign AE5WU, where he held the office of secretary. Additionally, he generously dedicated his time as a volunteer tax preparer for various organizations and was a supporter of many charitable causes.

Hank leaves behind his loving wife of 21 years, Peggy DeSandre. His legacy continues through his children, Glenn (Pierce) DeSandre of San Francisco, CA, Richard "Randy" (Tammy) Platt of Maricopa, AZ, Christine DeSandre of Seal Beach, CA, Kristy Davis of Gulfport, MS and Richard "Kelly" (Amy) Davis of Edelstein, IL. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Tailor Burton, Adam Platt, Angelo Platt, Aaron Platt, Brynn Davis, Isaac Davis, Camryn Davis, Emma Davis, Everett LeMaster, Myla Davis, Bricen Davis, and Jace Davis. Hank is also survived by his siblings, Arnold and Layne DeSandre of Murcheson, TX, Catherine Wright of Joliet, IL, Margie DeSandre of Genoa, IL, Ron and Ruth Meyer of Joliet, IL and Sally DeSandre of Joliet, IL. He is remembered fondly by his sister-in-law, Iris DeSandre of New Lenox, IL; his niece, Michelle "Shelly" Keith and her husband Scott of Hoffman Estates, IL; his daughter-in-law, Courtney Thompson of Sublette, IL; and his cherished friend Mr. Charles Honora, of Gulfport, MS, along with many other nieces and nephews who hold cherished memories of him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Dorothy (Mitchell) DeSandre; his first wife, Kathy DeSandre; one son, L. Korey Davis; and two brothers, Frank and Aldo DeSandre.

Hank will be remembered for his profound impact on the lives of those around him, his unwavering commitment to community service, and the deep love he held for his family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Funeral Services for Henry Arnold DeSandre will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road at Essington Road, Joliet, IL.  Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
