

Obituary of Richard David Coffman
Richard David Coffman, age 87, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, February 20, 2026, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet.
Born November 26, 1938 in Oak Park, he was the son of the late Paul and Joyce (Heilemann) Coffman. Raised in Maywood, IL, Richard attended several grade schools, graduated from Proviso High School with the class of 1952, and then attended Elmhurst College for one year. From 1957 to 1962, he served with Air National Guard of Illinois and the Air Force Reserve, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman First Class.
Richard retired from editing and publishing the Proviso Star-Sentinel newspapers for thirty years, and owning a printing company for ten years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing poker and pinochle, New Year’s Day Pot of Chili, football, the White Sox, and game nights with dear friends and family. A fan of jazz and big band music, Richard was an avid record collector.
A lifelong Episcopalian, Richard cherished spending time with church activities at Holy Communion Church in Maywood, IL, and St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church in Joliet, IL.
Richard was the dear husband of Suzanne (née Perkins) Coffman for 66 years; beloved father of Carrie (Bill) Myers, Stephen (Kimberly) Coffman, and Bo (Laura) Coffman; cherished grandfather of Nicholas (Colleen) Myers, Christopher (Erica) Myers, Stephanie (Jake) Miller, Taylor (Jeremy) Whited, Emily (Daniel) Kemner, and Dakota, Kyle and Dillon Coffman; sweet great-grandfather of Madelyn and Connor Myers and Jackson Miller; and loving brother of Lynn Coburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt and uncle, Edith and Dale Coffman.
Visitation for Richard Coffman will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m., until the time of his funeral Mass at 2:30 p.m., at St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church, 206 N. Midland Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435. Family and friends will meet Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Oakridge Cemetery, 4301 W. Roosevelt Road, Hillside, IL 60162 for the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church would be appreciated.
