Obituary of Carolyn M. Muirhead
Carolyn “Carol” Muirhead, (née Rotoloni), age 83, late of Shorewood, and formerly of Channahon and Crete, passed away February 28, 2026 with her loving family by her side.
Born February 10, 1943, in Chicago Heights, she was the daughter of Raldo and Lena (DePalma) Rotoloni, and was a graduate of Bloom Township High School with the Class of 1961. Carol worked in banking and as a retail clerk before beginning an over 20 year career with Bloom Township Trustees of Schools working as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk.
Carol married the love of her life, James P. Muirhead, on November 6, 1964, and they enjoyed 37 years of marriage until his passing May 9, 2002. Her son, James “Jamie” Muirhead, also preceded her in death October 5, 2023.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, nannie, and great-nonna, Carol was proud of her Italian heritage and cherished her Catholic faith. She will be remembered for her love of Cinderella, craft shows, playing Po-ke-no, going to the theatre, listening to Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond, enjoying an amaretto stone sour, making chocolate chip cookie bars with her grandchildren and collecting angels.
Surviving are her loving children, Michael (Kimberly) Muirhead of Channahon, and Caryn Muirhead of Joliet; four grandchildren, Steph (Brad) Sather, Steven Klenk, and Evelyn and Wally Muirhead; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brinley Sather; a daughter-in-law, Katelyn Muirhead; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Bill) Innes; three sisters, Arlene (the late David) Hudson, Brenda (Tom) Getzelman, and Debbie Rotoloni; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Innes, Jessica (Ben) Tolerba, Danny (Brittany) Innes, Joy (Kyle) Amberger, Laura (Kevin) Flahaven, Jenny Getzelman, Kyle (Alyssa) Getzelman, and Katie (Jeff) Matusiak.
Visitation for Carol will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 9:00 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL.
