Brian Alan Lewis

 

Brian Alan Lewis, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Brian was born in Chicago, IL, on January 26, 1960, the son of Paul and Mary (nee Wukitsch) Lewis.

 

Brian grew up on the Southwest Side of Chicago and graduated from Hubbard High School. He continued his education at Richard J. Daley College, where he earned his associate’s degree. He carried the value of hard work and education with him throughout his life and career, always striving to do his best for his family and his community.

 

Brian dedicated 25 years of his life to public service with the City of Joliet Police Department. A proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police, he served with quiet courage and steady resolve until his retirement in 2014. His years in uniform reflected his deep sense of duty, honor, and protection for others.

 

Family was at the center of Brian’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Terri (nee Shaw) Lewis; who was his partner and companion through all of life’s seasons. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love, values Brian passed down to his children and grandchildren. Brian is also survived by his two sons, Kevin (Alexis) Lewis and Christopher (Bridget) Lewis, and his three cherished grandsons, Hudson, Beckett, and Quinn Lewis; his father, Paul Lewis, Sr.; three siblings, Paul (Debbie) Lewis, Mike (Sandy) Lewis, and Diane Lewis; cherished cousin Christy Fry; his mother- and father-in-law, Gail and Lee Shaw; his brother-in-law, David (Melanie) Shaw; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He is preceded by his mother, Mary (nee Wukitsch) Lewis.

 

A Memorial Gathering for Brian Alan Lewis will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m.  As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the 100 Club of Illinois. This organization provides for the dependents of fallen first responders and supports active duty first responders across Illinois.
