We met Dave in 1980. We just clicked. He was so full of life and so much fun. We had a lot in common from ucker to back gammon.
Dale lovingly called him the Mullion. His brothers picked up on that. Us girls still called him Dave. Our oldest granddaughter, Mina, called him uncle million.
In the early years we went through 3 girlfriends and 1 marriage. One broke his heart. We took him out for Chinese trying to make him feel better. As we’re eating, Dale said, cheer up Mullion it could be worse. Dave said, yeah, my f…ing front tooth could fall out. At that exact moment Dale started chewing funny and his front tooth actually fell out.It really cheered Dave up.We were almost on the floor laughing so hard.
Then he brings Diane to our house to meet her. She fit right in. She was wearing a fridged jacket, so Dale called her the biker chick. Dave would call her Dick Tracy or sticky. Di said he would always show up where she was at. This was the beginning of Aunt Di Di.
We moved from Joliet to Indiana so we didn’t get to see each other like we use to. We still got together as much as we could.
We actually were invited on their honeymoon! Such a great trip with many amazing memories.
Dave called December of 2022 and told us he had cancer. That blew us away. Our hearts dropped. Our best friend has cancer.
When it wrapped around his vocal cords was the worst. He lost his voice, but he still fought.Dave was always stubborn, but I think that’s why we had 4 more years with him.
Di called the morning after he passed. We were trying to keep it together because we had our granddaughter’s birthday party to go to. On the way there, we came to a stop sign and the SUV in front of us had THOMAS at the top of his license plate. Not long after that, Luke Bryan’s song, Drink a Beer came on. We lost it. Our buddy and best friend was reaching out saying he’s ok.
Dave, we have a big hole in our hearts. You were the best. Our love will always be with you. You will always live in our hearts. You will always be Dale’s best friend and the brother I never had.
When I got the news today
I didn’t know what to say
So I just hung up the phone
I took a walk to clear my head
This is where the walken lead
Can’t believe you’re really gone
Don’t feel like going home
So I’m gonna sit right here on the edge of this pier. And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
Funny how the good ones go
Too soon, but the good Lord knows
The reasons why I guess
Sometimes the greater plan
Is kinda hard to understand
Right now it don’t make sense
I can’t make it all make sense
So I’m gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier
And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
So long my friend
Until we meet again
I’ll remember you
And all the times we use to…
Sit right here on the edge of this pier
And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer
Drink a beer
Drink a beer
Yeah
