Kathleen Gjerde

Obituary of Kathleen A. Gjerde

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of Kathleen A. Gjerde, age, 75, of Minooka and formerly Morris, IL, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at The Pavilion on Main Street in Sandwich, IL.

Kathleen was born on May 15, 1950, to the late Vincent and Cecelia (Cepiel) Farrell. After graduating from Morris Community High School, she spent some time in beauty school before working in the healthcare field, as well as Jemco in Minooka for 16 years before retirement. Kathy was also a caregiver. She cared for her husband, mother, father and mother-in-law in their time of need with compassion and strength. Kathy gave her time, her energy, and her heart without hesitation.

Kathy was, in every sense, unforgettable, spunky, and quick-witted. She had a beautifully sharp, sarcastic sense of humor that kept those around her laughing and on their toes. Her laugh was contagious, and completely unfiltered, one of her greatest gifts, a sound that could lift spirits instantly. Time spent with her was never ordinary; it was meaningful, often hilarious, and always memorable.

A dedicated mother, cherished sister, beloved grandma, dear aunt, and friend, Kathy leaves behind her children, Eric (Elizabeth) Gjerde of Princeton, IL and Heidi (Shawn) Beck of Minooka, IL; her step-grandchildren, Reiter (Ashley) Bird and Reece Bird; one great-grandchild, Evelyn Blu Bird; one sister, Marrietta (Larry) Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Terry Gjerde in 2015; sister, Barbara (Tim) Spack, her parents and her grand-dog, Muttley.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, Kathy’s spirit lives on in the laughter she sparked, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched. She taught us to be bold, and to laugh. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved.

As it was, Kathleen's request, cremation rites have been accorded.

All friends and relatives are invited to attend a Celebration of Life honoring Kathy on Saturday May 16, 2026, from 2-5 pm at the Morris VFW, 309 McKinley Street (at Route 47).
