George Polykandriotis
George Polykandriotis, age 89, of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. George was born on October 8, 1936 to the late Anna (Boni) and John Polykandriotis in Greece where he was raised and educated.
On February 10, 1973 he married Virginia Redi and soonafter, they emigrated to the United States, settling in the Joliet/Plainfield area where they raised their family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 53 years, George is also survived by his daughter, Anna (Peter) Gallos; sons, John (Ira) Polykandriotis and Stefen (Taryen) Polykandriotis; grandchildren, Andrew, George and Chrissa Gallos; Joren, Evan and George Polykandriotis.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter, Nia Polykandriotis.
A retired union painter, George served his community and local #33 well over four decades and was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the Mykonos Society.
In his free time, George enjoyed keeping up with his beloved sports teams from back home, especially soccer. However, being a family man and proud “Papou” made him most happy.
Funeral Services for George Polykandriotis were held privately at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Interment followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
