Obituary of Nick Aggelopoulos

Nick Aggelopoulos, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Ellicott City, MD, at the age of 78.

Nick was born on December 5, 1947. He was the youngest child of proud Greek Immigrants, Paraskive (Tsousanis) and George Aggelopoulos.  Through hard work, determination, and the hope of affording their children opportunity, they became the proprietors of the Hickory Creek Food Mart which was located on S. Chicago St. in Joliet, and later relocated to Wilmington as the Hickory Creek Super Market.

Although non-verbal, Nick left an indelible mark on all who knew him.  He radiated peace, warmth, kindness and grace while being lovingly cared for by his family.  His smile would light up a room, and he had a spirit that could change anyone’s bad day into a day of joy.

Christmas was his favorite time of year and anytime Christmas music was playing, he would hum along as loud as he could, and wanting it played over and over again.  Besides singing he loved to paint, color, put puzzles together and watching his favorite TV sitcom, “Friends”, making him laugh out loud every time.  Nick’s child-like spirit taught everyone around him how to be grateful for Gods goodness and love.

His sister, Barbara encouraged him to participate in the local Special Olympics where he won several awards over the years.

Nick loved spending time at his parent’s three-season home in St. Germain, WI, where he would fish, swim in the lake, walk through the forest, jump in the sand pit, and go see the Black Bears at the local garbage dump.

Nick is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, Patricia, John and George; Stacy, George and John, Ellen and Kurt, Patty Ann, and Cathy, Patty, and Georgian, and many friends. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends, who will forever remember his pure, gentle and kind spirit.

In addition to his devoted parents, Nick is preceded in death by his siblings, Mary (Dominic) Mancuso, Rita (Nick) Andrew, Marilyn (Spiros) Metros, Barbara (Ronald) Carnet, and Angelo (Irean) Aggelopoulos.
