Obituary of Sylvia Surges

Sylvia Surges (nee Mandel) Age 97, at rest Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born June 21, 1917 in Imperial, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Goldie (nee Kelly) Mandel, and was a resident of Joliet half of her life. She worked at the Arsenal during World War II, was a clerk and buyer for The Boston Store, and later was a clerk and department manager at Wiebolts. She was a member and past President of Parks School PTA, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Beloved mother of Donna (Ron) Walsh, Kathleen (the late John) Pagonis, Linda (Felix) Orasco, Sharon (Rick) Alexander and Dennis (Sue) Surges; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, William John Surges; daughter, Denise McRaven; her parents; one sister, Frances Eichman; and one brother, John Henry Mandel. Funeral Services for Sylvia Surges will be Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
