Obituary of Derek Montgomery

Derek M. Montgomery Age 43. Suddenly Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at his home as the result of an apparent cardiac event. Born in Chicago and a lifelong resident before relocating to Plainfield 13 years ago. He was a restless, hardworking family man who always put his children first. He was a funny, friendly and kind-hearted father. Derek started his career with Dominick's Food Stores at age 17 and continued through management until the store closed and was reopened under the Jewel Food Store name. Derek was a jack of all trades. There isn't a project that he wouldn't attempt or complete to professional standards. Our family called them "side jobs" from repairing cars to remodeling bathrooms to carpentry, Derek did it all. He was a lifelong Cubs fan. Preceded by his father, Miller Montgomery; two brothers, Gregg and Jimmy Montgomery; and one sister, Leslie Butler. Survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Desiree I. Montgomery of Plainfield; three sons, Ryan, Anthony and Alex Montgomery, all of Plainfield; his mother, Jeri Mostowski of Chicago; three brothers, Joe (the late Laurie) of Frankfort, Jeff (Terri) of Berwyn and Jerry (Jeanne) Montgomery of Chicago; five sisters, Lynne (David) Sircher of Bolingbrook, Laura (the late Elliott) White of Idaho, Monica Montgomery of Chicago, Jaime (Ray) Moreno of Burbank and Dana (Gabriel) Galvan of Crest Hill; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services for Derek M. Montgomery will be held Monday, February 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.
