Obituary of Irene Onofrey

IRENE ONOFREY Age 87, passed away on May 24, 2015 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1945. Retired from the Joliet public school system District 86 Parks School after 21 wonderful years as a secretary. Past president of the grade school and high school band mothers. Life member of PTA. Preceded by her husband, Edward Onofrey (2011); one granddaughter, Megan Mulcahy; her parents, Max and Celia (nee Rosen) Klein; one brother, Dr. Samuel Klein and one sister, Ruth (John) Logan. Survived by two sons, Dr. Bruce (Cindy) Onofrey of Albuquerque, NM and Thomas Onofrey of Shorewood; one daughter, Nancy Onofrey of Joliet; one granddaughter, Kerry Carlson of Bloomington, IL ; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Her beautiful smile, kind, gentle, caring nature and boundless generosity will be missed, but never forgotten by all that knew and loved her. Rest in peace dear Irene, you made a difference in all of our lives and leave us with a lifetime of beautiful memories. Private funeral services were held. Irene has requested cremation without a formal service. A memorial dinner is currently being planned for her close friends and family.
