Obituary of Marjorie Jensen

Marjorie Lou Jensen (nee Bell) Age 87, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 25 at home in Joliet. Daughter to William Bell & Lurene (Hanson) Bell, she was born in Chicago July 27, 1927, but Joliet was her lifetime home. Marge was a graduate of Joliet Central, class of 1945 & continued her education with an associate's degree from Kendall College & Roosevelt University. Marge met the love of her life, LaVerne, at the Rialto Square Theatre where she sold war bonds in the lobby and he was an usher. They married on November 26, 1950 at Ingalls Park Methodist Church. Throughout her life, Marge worked outside the home most notably JCPenney for over 20 years. After retirement, she & Vern were active in the SCCA where Marge was a track official for timing & scoring. Marge loved to read, embroider, plant flowers & garden plus she was committed to her church as a Sunday School teacher & in numerous women's groups. In addition, she was Past President of Harwood Post #5 Auxillary, Cantigny VFW Post #367 Auxillary, plus 18th District VFW past President. Currently serving as Chaplain of Harwood Post #5 Auxillary. Proud member of the Destroyer Escort Group which she co-founded with Vern. Survived by her husband, LaVerne H of Joliet; her children Sandra Lu (Frank) Gunter of Normal Il., William H (Kimberly) Jensen of Joliet, & Anton E (Sue) Jensen of Island Lake. Six grandchildren, Eric (Sofie) Gunter, Kevin (Alexandra) Gunter, Jennifer (Scott) Bartnik, Brent (Kelsey Lexow) Jensen, Shannell Jensen & Jordan Jensen, 5 great-grandchildren, plus two sisters-in-law, Mary Jean White & Karen Jensen, nieces & great nieces survive. Preceded by parents, son Keith Jensen at birth, and grand-daughters Heather L.Gunter & Lindsey E Jensen. Funeral services for Marjorie Lou Jensen will be Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, 353 N. Midland Avenue, Joliet at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Rebekkah Lohrmann officiating. Visitation at the church will begin THURSDAY MORNING at 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Faith Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army, Joliet in her name would be appreciated. Fred C. Dames Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
