Obituary of Mary Armstrong

Mary Ruth Armstrong Mary Ruth Armstrong was born to the proud parents of the late Theodore and Emma (nee Curry) Stephens on November 24, 1945 in Magnolia, AR. After Mary's battle, a long and brave fight with Multiple Sclerosis and other illnesses, she departed this life at home peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on September 25, 2015 in Joliet, IL at the age of 69. Mary accepted Christ at an early age after joining Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Magnolia, AR. Graduated from Westside High School in Waldo, AR. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she met and married Lucius Armstrong, Jr. for 49 years whom preceded her in death. To that union were born two children, Lucréia and Lucius Armstrong, III. During this time, Mary furthered her education in the medical field as an LPN. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, friends, shopping, dinner outings, reading and listening to her soothing gospel music. Her favorite song by Marvin Sapp, "Never Would Have Made It". Survived by her daughter, Lucréia (Mondale) Smith and her son, Lucius (Kimberly) Armstrong, III; five grandchildren, David, Lucius D., Lavarius and Malik Armstrong and Gavyn Smith; one great-grandchild, Kayden Armstrong; sister, Delma (Earl) Carter; three brothers, Courtney, Charles and William Stephens; special aunt Patsy Ford; special cousins, Virgil Curry and Billy Adams; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services for Mary Ruth Armstrong will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 12 Noon at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Pastor Charles Durham officiating. Interment Monday, October 5, 2015 Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Cremation Rites to follow services. Visitation Saturday morning, 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 12 Noon.
