Kudos to Bernie!!! Even with the cancer, he made it to Mass everyday, then to work, which for me is truly an inspiration. He shared his life through prayer with the sick and bringing communion to those in the hospital. Bernie felt no one prayed with the sick anymore. He lived his life through this difficult time thinking of others and on his terms. And, he never forgot his Mom, AKA Granny Bird. You can't help but admire him for all he did. Bernie, I hope you let your family know that your at peace through their dreams!!! I will miss you.

My mother "Rita Gura Dore" always told me I was just like her little brother Bernie. I can recall when I was a little boy I went to Joliet with my parents to visit my grannie and grandpa. My Uncle Bernie offered to spend the day with me while my parents went to Chicago. Uncle Bernie picked me up in his Police car and took me to play Putt-Putt, he even let me turn the lights and siren on. I was so excited! I told myself one day I want to be just like my uncle. Even though I only met my uncle a few times he was a big part of my life and the day I went into law enforcement my mother said "see you're just like your Uncle Bernie"… R.I.P Uncle Bernie
