Obituary of George Roberts

George S. Roberts Age 94, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2015 at home with family. Born August 22, 1921 in Burlington, IL, he was a long time Joliet area resident. A veteran of WWII, he was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and the recipient of the Purple Heart. George farmed in Capron, IL for many years, and later worked construction where he was a Midwest Operating Engineer with Local #150. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Frances D. (nee Dugan) Roberts (2011); his parents, George and Mathilda (nee Kiel) Roberts; four sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his loving daughters, Mary Ann (Steven) Smolkovich of Joliet and Ellen Marie Roberts of Libertyville, IL; and two dear granddaughters, Kate and Lori (fiancé Brian Madsen) Smolkovich. He was also the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for George S. Roberts will be Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery will be private. Memorials to the Will County Senior Services Center, any food pantry, or Masses for the repose of his soul would be appreciated. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
