Obituary of Porfirio Rivera

Porfirio Rivera "Pete" Age 73, of Joliet, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born January 10, 1942 in Martindale, TX, he was the son of the late Arturo and Adela (Hernandez) Rivera. Pete was a member of Laborers Union Local #288 and worked for Brockman Plumbing and Heating for 25 years, and retired from K5 Construction. He was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Joliet, and the Grupo Guadalupano. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Pete will be remembered as a kind and loving man whose laugh and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was always available to anyone who needed his help. Surviving are his beloved wife, Dora (Guardiola) Rivera; three devoted children, Debbie (Mark) Paskvan, Karen (Tim) Joiner, and Jeff Rivera, all of Joliet; and six adoring grandchildren, Janna Paskvan, Brianna Rivera, David Paskvan, Stephanie Joiner, Gabriel Rivera, and Alexander Joiner. He was also the fond brother of Joe (Connie), John and Art Rivera, Mary (Jorge) Arias, Oralia (Robert) Garcia and Alice (Alfredo) Melesio; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Porfirio Rivera will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 205 E. Jackson Street, Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
