Obituary of Norman Legner

Norman E. Legner "Norm" Age 88. Passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born December 5, 1927 on a farm in Ransom, IL to the late Leo J. and Elizabeth (nee Early) Legner. A resident of Joliet since 1940, attended Joliet grade schools and catholic high school. A U.S. Airforce veteran. Norm was an active midget and stock car owner/driver in the late 1940's thru the mid 1960's, becoming Mazon Speed Bowl Champion in 1950 and 1955 in stock cars and inducted into the Mazon-Grundy Hall of Fame, 2004. Life member of the Loyal Order of Moose #300 Joliet. Norm married Rose "Irene" Lazier of Morris, IL on July 5, 1952 at Richards Street Methodist Church, Joliet. Retired from the EJ&E Railroad in 1983 as fire equipment inspector. Survived by his loving wife, Wilda Arlone (nee Turnbouch) Legner; son, Thomas N. (Jacquie); daughter, Maryann (Randy) Mustonen; six grandchildren, Jerry of Crest Hill, Eric and Brian Legner, both of Joliet and Martin, Tony and Alex Valadez, all of Joliet; six great-grandsons, Zach, Gavin, Austin, Brandon, Brett and Thomas Legner; one brother, Robert (Barbara); one sister, Betty (Bill) Savage; two stepsons, Gilbert and Darrell Cortez; four step grandsons, Joshua, Jacob, Johnathan and Adam Cortez; two step granddaughters, Bailey and Cadence Cortez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rose (Irene) (1994); son, Jerome "Jerry" Leo (1966); brother, Kenneth (2015); and two sisters, Vivian (1922) and Elnora Roesel (January 11, 2016). Funeral Services for Norman E. Legner will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
