Obituary of Richard O'Malley

Richard F. O'Malley Richard F. O'Malley, age 82, died March 18, 2016 in Evanston, IL surrounded by his family. Born September 18, 1933 in Aurora, IL, one of six sons of his parents, John who immigrated from Ireland and worked for the Burlington Northern and Margaret (nee Sheehan), a college graduate and school teacher. Graduated from Marmion Military Academy and Regis University. Served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Employed 33 years in national sales for U.S. Gypsum and UC Industries. Richard was the youngest distict manager in the history of U.S. Gypsum and contributed to the building of many of Chicago's skyscrapers, including Willis (nee Sears) Tower. Richard was a devoted member of St. Jude's of Joliet Catholic Parish. He served on St. Jude's School Board and was a lector and eucharistic minister. He lent his construction talents to expanding the school and building new walls for the classrooms. He was an active parent for St. Francis Academy and Joliet Catholic High School, who with his wife, Mary, ran a showroom at the Jubilation Fundraiser for a number of years. He was an avid golfer, who was a member of the Wedgewood Golf Club Men's Senior league. He also enjoyed travel, photography and was a voracious reader. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks Club. Richard was a devoted grandfather who attended many sporting events, dance recitals, First Communions and graduations of his seven grandchildren. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary T. (nee O'Connell) O'Malley; infant son, Joseph O'Connell O'Malley; his parents, John T. and Margaret (Sheehan) O'Malley; brothers, John and Francis O'Malley. Survived by three children, Richard F. (Anne Gallagher) O'Malley, Jr. of Evanston, IL, Colleen (Peter) Driscoll of Kenilworth, IL and Mary Kathleen O'Malley of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, R. Conor, Elizabeth, Brian G., and Katherine G. O'Malley of Evanston, IL, Eileen O., Anne and Clare Driscoll of Kenilworth; and brothers, Robert, James and Thomas O'Malley. Visitation for Richard F. O'Malley will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2212 W. McDonough St., Joliet, IL where visitation will resume from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Morris, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Catholic School, 2204 McDonough St., Joliet, IL would be appreciated. For more information: (815) 741-5500.
