Obituary of Rudolph J. Podobnik

Rudolph J. Podobnik "Rudy" Age 93, a longtime resident of Crest Hill, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday September 21, 2016 at Symphony of Joliet. He was born March 29, 1923 in Joliet to the late Agnes (nee Ruzich) and Frank Podobnik. He attended Joliet Grade Schools and is a graduate of Joliet Township High School. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Rudy served in the Pacific during WWII. Beloved husband of 68 years to Frances "Fran" (nee Brozovich) Podobnik; loving father of Kathleen "Kathee" (Robert) Kraker of California; proud grandfather of Brian Kraker and Elizabeth (Alex) DiGrazia. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Frankel, Agnes (Russell) Edwards; sister-in-law, Alice Podobnik and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Susan E. Kraker; four brothers, Joseph (late Jennifer), Frank (late Mary), Steven and Edward Podobnik; two sisters, Mary (late Stanley) Bednarczyk and Kay Kastelic. Rudy retired from Olin Chemical after 35 years of service. His hobbies included travel, music, baseball, fishing, camping, gardening and he especially enjoyed family gatherings. The family would like to extend a special thanks to both the Timbers of Shorewood and Symphony of Joliet for the personal, professional and dedicated care they provided our beloved Rudy. Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 27, 2016, 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Anne Catholic Church, Crest Hill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to St. Mary Nativity School or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
