Obituary of Shirley M. Dempsey

Shirley M. Dempsey (nee Ryan) Age 87. Peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday February 12, 2017. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and also the Paulites. Former member of the Joliet Junior Women's Club. Preceded in death by her husband, John T. "Jack" Dempsey (1996); her mother, Helen (Ersie) Barnes; and her father, John Ryan. Survived by her loving daughter, Susan (the late Joseph) Marconi of Joliet, two sons, Jack (Jennifer) Dempsey of Scottsdale, AZ and Tom (Mary Fran) Dempsey of Joliet; eight grandchildren, Brad (Sara) Marconi of Channahon, Bryan (Megan) Marconi of Joliet and Jennifer (Paul) Yanak of Plainfield; Patrick (Anna) Dempsey of Scottsdale, AZ and Scott (Lindsey) Dempsey of Scottsdale, AZ; Devon Dempsey of Joliet, Tess (Kevin) Leininger of Perrysville, Ohio and Tori Dempsey of Chicago; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren and Luc Marconi; Ryan and Cameron Yanak; Ryan Dempsey; Joseph Marconi; Madeline Dempsey; Matilda Leininger and one step great-grandchild, Jordan Machura as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Dempsey family will forever be grateful to the staff at Silverado of Naperville, ALC Hospice and Dr. Robert Tetik and staff for the wonderful care and compassion afforded Shirley. Her final days were filled with grace and dignity. Funeral Services for Shirley Dempsey will be held Thursday February 16, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Road (at Essington Rd.) Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to St. Paul the Apostle Church would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. until services begin at the funeral home.
