Obituary of Virginia Irene Feeney

Virginia Irene (nee Breen) Feeney, age 78, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.  She was born in Joliet and resided most of her life in Channahon.

She was the devoted daughter of the late Ambrose and Dorothy (Lamping) Breen.  She attended St. Francis Academy and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Channahon.  Virginia was a homemaker while raising her family, and later shared her passion for cooking as the baker at N. B. Galloway Grade School.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 59 years, John R. Feeney; precious mother to Kimberly (Michael) Mitchell of Channahon, Kevin (Kristie) Feeney of Channahon, and Timothy (Julie) Feeney of Minooka; six cherished grandchildren, Trevor (fiancé Kaitlyn Trizna) Feeney, Trent Feeney, Claire Mitchell, Monica Feeney, Madeline Feeney and Audrey Mitchell; four dear brothers and sisters, Gerald (Mary) Breen, Robert (Debbie) Breen, Patricia (the late Roy) Todd and Sharon (Charles) Wilhelmi; her husband’s brothers, Michael (Phyllis) Feeney and Patrick (Michelle) Feeney; a sister-in-law, Sharon Feeney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband’s parents, John B. and Genevieve (McDonald) Feeney; three children, John R. Feeney, Jr., Richard Allen Feeney and Mary Loretta Feeney; one brother, Richard Breen; two sisters, Mary Breen and Janet (Glenn) Hansen; brother-in-law, James Feeney; and sister-in-law, Darlene (James) Downey.

Virginia will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul with a passion for life.  A faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, Virginia cherished her Catholic faith.  She lovingly and tirelessly cared for her family.  Her determination and selfless manner had an impact on all who knew her.  She was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Sosenko, Silver Cross Pulmonary Rehab Group and Angels Grace Hospice; especially Sharmaigne and Renisha.  A special thank you to caregivers Debbie, Jeannie and her loving niece, Missy.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Feeney will be celebrated Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. St. Ann Catholic Church, 24500 S. Navajo Drive, Channahon. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Minooka.  Memorials in her name to St. Ann Catholic Church would be appreciated.  Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fred C.
