Obituary of Margaret M. Shell

Margaret M. Shell, age 80, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, with her loving family by her side, following a brief illness.

Born May 12, 1937 in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Luther Clem and Ida Mae (nee Burns) Evans.  She retired from Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corporation, where she served as a quality control supervisor for many years.

Margaret was a faithful member of Joliet First Assembly, where she was active in many ministries of the church.  She was a humble woman of strong faith who loved her family, her Lord, and her church.

Surviving are her three devoted children, James Harry “Pete” (Georgia) Shell, Jr. of Arbuckle, CA, Judy Diane (Nathan) Shell of Minneapolis, MN, and Betty Louise (Robert) Richter of Joliet; four grandchildren, Brandon, Amy and Ashlee Shell and Damien Shell; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Jewell (Bobby) Mahaffey, and one brother, Roger Dale (Rhonda) Evans, both of Travelers Rest, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Harry Shell, Sr. (1989); her parents; and her siblings, Thomas Evans, Ruey Evans, and Frances Meece.

Funeral services for Margaret M. Shell will be held Monday, June 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, where visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services. 

Further services will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until time of services at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Park in Travelers Rest.
